Vance Havner: A journey From Jungtown, is a living biography which means that Vance was still alive when it was written. He passed away August 12th 1986. He was best known as a traveling evangelist, conference speaker and a Southern Baptist.

The biographer Douglas White, has known Vane Havner, for over 40 years, and credits him as having the most influence on his own ministry.

Douglas White, does an excellent job bringing the reader into now, the long past early life of Vance Havner. Vancce was born in 1901, and by the time he was 12 years old he was ordained in his local Southern Baptist church "Corinth." White tells Vance's story, at an age of knowing right from wrong, after a revival service at his home church, which in those days had a mourners bench where those who seek to give their life to Christ and accept him as their Lord and Savior, would kneel for prayer.

Vance, did not go to the mourners bench that day, or any other day. He wanted to do things like his father "Pink," and perhaps other Christians of the past like John Bunyon, who would pray in the wilderness slumped over a log with six inches of snow on the ground for hours, to settle his salvation with the Lord Jesus Christ.

A man After Gods Heart

Vance Havner, was a man after Gods own heart. At the early age of twelve, Vance pack churches and dance halls with the Gospel. He wasn't immune to the philosophy of the world but like Amos, he heeded  the calling which he was called.  Today, one would think he read a Grant Cardone book such as "Be Obsessed or be Average."

Aside from reading my Bible, I love a good biography of people of faith. Especially over reading a sermon that was transformed into a book like so many books today. The reason is simply that you can see the path these pilgrims took in life and how God intervened in their lives. They also help the  reader to see how God maybe intervening in your own life.

Vance Havner: Journey from Jugtown, is a very inspirational biography in the life and work of a prophet sent from God. I give this book 4 stars and a must read for any student of the bible.
